Wizkid honors his late mother with the release of his 6th studio album, ‘Morayo’

Nigerian music icon Ayodeji Balogun, widely recognized as Wizkid, has released his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Morayo.

Dropped on Friday, November 22, under Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records, the album marks another milestone in Wizkid’s storied career.

A Tribute Rooted in Joy and Loss

The title Morayo, which translates to “I see joy” in Yoruba, carries profound personal meaning. It serves as a heartfelt tribute to Wizkid’s late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023. Speaking about the project, Wizkid described it as his finest work to date, tweeting back in July, “Best album I ever made!! Now listen! It’s only up from here!”

A Fusion of Emotion and Afrobeat Mastery

Spanning 16 tracks, Morayo blends Wizkid’s signature Afrobeat style with poignant themes of loss, resilience, and celebration. The album features standout collaborations with both local and global talents:

  • “Piece of My Heart” (feat. Brent Faiyaz): Already a fan favorite, this track has climbed to No. 4 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart.
  • “Bad Girl” (feat. Asake): Following their Grammy-nominated collaboration MMS, this track is another highlight.
  • “Après Minuit” (feat. Tiakola): A nod to Wizkid’s global appeal, this track features French artist Tiakola.
  • “Bad For You” (feat. Jazmine Sullivan): Adds a soulful touch with the acclaimed vocalist.
  • Tracks like “Kese (Dance)”, “Troubled Mind”, and “Pray” balance infectious rhythms with reflective tones.
