Tinubu’s Vision for African Unity and Development
On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu emphasized that peace is essential for Africa’s progress and development. He stated that stability, democracy, and peace are crucial for the continent’s advancement.
At a dinner hosted by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, Tinubu discussed the need for Africa to handle its own issues and not rely on external solutions. The two leaders also signed agreements on various topics, including petroleum and security.
Tinubu urged African leaders to focus on peace, stability, and progress, stressing that now is the time to act. He highlighted challenges like brain drain, outdated legal systems, and tribalism, which hinder development, and called for greater investment in African research and development.
He pointed out that peace is necessary for genuine development and criticized the lack of progress due to issues like poverty and outdated systems. Tinubu also called on international organizations to invest more in Africa’s research and development efforts, emphasizing the need for the continent to develop its own solutions.
In his address, Tinubu also stressed the importance of collective action to resolve conflicts in regions like the Congo Republic and the Sahel. He expressed his hope for increased cooperation and solidarity among African nations to address these challenges.
Earlier, President Mbasogo expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his visit and highlighted the growing cooperation between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea in areas like education, trade, and defense. Mbasogo called for stronger regional and international cooperation to tackle issues such as maritime crime and security threats and stressed the need for African solidarity and better representation on the global stage, including the UN Security Council.
