Tinubu Re-elected as ECOWAS Chairman Receives Okupe’s Congratulations
Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former leader in the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on being re-elected as the head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
President Tinubu was re-elected during the bloc’s 65th Ordinary Session held in Abuja on Sunday.
In his congratulatory message on Monday, Okupe expressed his admiration for Tinubu, acknowledging the challenges that seem to accompany his leadership roles at both national and regional levels.
Okupe wished Tinubu divine guidance and wisdom to manage these difficult times.
Okupe suggested that Tinubu’s primary goal in his new term should be to restore the leadership of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to ECOWAS.
He advised that the first step should be reconciling with Nigeria’s neighboring country, the Republic of Niger.
Okupe recommended that Tinubu seek the support of former President Muhammadu Buhari and other influential Northern leaders with strong connections to the Republic of Niger.
He also mentioned that the African Union (AU) could officially lead this reconciliation effort and that diplomatic outreach to Russia, particularly through the AU, could be beneficial.
