Tinubu Dedicates Major Abuja Road to Literary Icon Chinua Achebe

President Bola Tinubu announced on Saturday that the M18 road in Guzape District, Abuja, will be named after the famous novelist Professor Chinua Achebe.

Tinubu emphasized that his administration is focused on improving people’s lives by providing necessary infrastructure and services.

During the inauguration of engineering infrastructure in Guzape Lot 11 District, Tinubu praised Minister Nyesom Wike for his leadership during challenging times. He noted that the country is working on improving its financial system to bring prosperity and relief to its citizens.

“You have shown you can build and lead a team, and fulfill promises. I applaud you,” Tinubu said. He also emphasized that disputes should be resolved with compensation rather than litigation. “Development should aim for economic prosperity and benefits. Unused land blocked by natural obstacles is of no value. Let’s work together to build Nigeria,” he added.

Tinubu praised the project contractor, Gilmor Engineering Limited, stressing that his goal of providing infrastructure nationwide is not for personal gain. “As President, I don’t own land here in Guzape District. My aim is to improve the quality of life for everyone,” he stated.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, explained that the project, initially awarded in 2003 for N14 billion, was given to Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company and Gilmor Engineering Limited in separate lots. Dantata had left the site but was brought back after the President’s approval.

Despite facing legal challenges, the development of the 32km road in the district continued. The project’s cost was revised to N18.17 billion shortly before the current administration took office.

Wike praised the President for his support and non-interference, allowing the FCT administration to work freely. He also suggested naming major roads in Guzape District after literary figures like Chinua Achebe and JP Clark and mentioned that the diplomatic area in the district will be completed within a year.
