In a recent trending video, the Vice President of Nigeria announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved a ₦90 billion subsidy for Hajj. This significant decision has sparked a variety of reactions from citizens across the nation. While some commend the government’s support for religious obligations, others believe that these funds could be better allocated to address pressing issues related to the cost of living in Nigeria.
Many citizens have taken to social media to voice their opinions. Supporters of the subsidy argue that it is a necessary measure to help Muslims fulfill their religious duties, emphasizing the importance of government support in such matters. They see this move as a positive step towards religious inclusivity and support, which can foster national unity and cultural understanding.
Conversely, critics argue that the ₦90 billion could be more effectively used to tackle urgent socio-economic challenges. They highlight issues such as poverty alleviation, healthcare improvements, and infrastructure development as more critical areas needing financial attention. These dissenting voices reflect the ongoing debate about government spending priorities and the best ways to enhance the quality of life for all Nigerians.
Below are some of the comments from citizens reacting to the news.

bigaent: With the number of churches and mosques we have in Nigeria we still need to travel out to pray?. Majority of the people are living in abject poverty and we are spending money to sponsor folks to go and pray for manna to fall from heaven.
ojayyy_: Let me tell you how senselessly this is, Saudi Arabia’s GDP is 1.12 Trillion Dollars while Nigeria’s GDP is 487.2 billion, which means that the market value of Saudi Arabia is 3 times more than that of Nigeria. The national debt of Saudi Arabia is 26.5 of their GDP meanwhile Nigeria has a debt percentage of 75.27 of GDP. This is a country we are adding 900 billion into their own economy because of religious jamboree!! Any day you Nigerians are tired you know what to do
cecilia__remi: Since these people enter seat I don’t understand English again.. Someone pls explain
balo_ng:He initially rejected it but when was told of the implications on the votes from the Muslim north in 2027, he reconsidered and approved it. Tinubu played politics using religion but unfortunately for him, the rhythm in the north has changed as hunger batters them and Nigerians.
