Stakeholders Respond to Melaye’s Criticism of PDP Leadership
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under a group called PDP Frontliners, have criticized Dino Melaye, the party’s former Kogi State Governorship candidate, for damaging the party’s reputation by unfairly attacking its leadership.
Melaye had accused the party, under the leadership of Amb. Umar Damagum, of becoming “commercialized and privatized,” which the group found disrespectful.
This criticism was made in a statement signed by the group’s President Alhaji Hussein Mohammed, Secretary Mr. Moses Abidemi, and Publicity Secretary Mr. Dan Okafor in Abuja.
The PDP Frontliners claimed that certain individuals, both within and outside the party, are now waiting to take advantage of the party’s troubles.
They promised to stand firm as loyal members and to unite with others to ensure that these negative forces do not succeed.
The statement pointed out that it was disappointing for Melaye, who received significant support during his campaign, to now accuse the party of its decline.
The group noted that Melaye, who has benefited from the PDP in the past, is now causing problems for the party.
They specifically mentioned that Melaye received considerable resources for the Kogi State governorship election but failed to effectively campaign, leading to poor results.
They also criticized him for his recent comments on social media, where he blamed the party’s leadership for its problems.
The group further alleged that Melaye tried to undermine the PDP’s efforts in Kogi State by attempting to manipulate party processes for personal gain.
They emphasized that the party leadership had to step in to prevent this manipulation, which led to Melaye’s current hostility towards them.
Despite the challenges, the party stakeholders remain hopeful that the PDP will overcome its current crisis and regain its strength, not just in Kogi State, but across Nigeria.
