Sean Kingston and his mother detained over accusations of fraudulence
Sean Kingston, a Jamaican-American singer, and his 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, were arrested after a police raid on his rented mansion in Florida on Thursday, May 23.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office issued warrants on Friday, May 24, stating that Kingston and his mother worked together to scam businesses, resulting in multiple grand theft and fraud charges against them.
Turner was arrested during the raid in Florida, while Kingston was arrested in Fort Irwin, California, on charges based on a warrant from Florida.
During the raid, authorities loaded U-Haul trucks with various items and towed at least one car from the property.
Between October 2023 and March of this year, Kingston, his mother, and others allegedly acquired items worth over $100,000 from businesses like Mazal Jewelry Inc., Maree Inc., Ocean Auto Club, and Expimled FL under false pretenses. The stolen items included more than $80,000 in furniture, a Cadillac Escalade, and jewelry valued at over $400,000.
Additionally, earlier this month, Turner was sued by Curran Living Trust for $100,000 in unpaid rent, according to Broward County court documents.
Kingston is also being sued by Ver Ver Entertainment for breach of contract and fraud. They claim he failed to pay for a 232-inch TV and premium sound system, and they are seeking $30,000 plus attorney fees in a jury trial. The company alleges that Kingston used his fame and connection to Justin Bieber to negotiate the price.
