Sanusi Reinstated as Emir of Kano: A Remarkable Return Four Years After Deposition

Muhammadu Sanusi II, deposed as the Emir of Kano four years ago, has been reinstated to the throne by Governor Abba Yusuf.

On Thursday, Yusuf revealed the decision following his signing of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law.

Abba stated, “Malam Sanusi Lamido’s reappointment has been endorsed by all the kingmakers, and I fully support it.

In December 2019, Former Governor Ganduje established the emirates of Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya, alongside Kano and also removed Sanusi II from the throne in March 2020 following an ongoing dispute

In reaction, Rivers State Governor, Siminalaya Fubara, described the reinstatement of the monarch as a welcome development and the correction of injustice perpetrated by the former administration in Kano State.
