President Bola Tinubu’s selection of Dr. Olufemi Adekanmbi as the new leader of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has been warmly welcomed by the residents of Rivers State, bringing renewed hope to Ogoniland.
Dr. Adekanmbi, who holds a PhD in Environmental Science, is anticipated to spearhead efforts to clean up Ogoniland, an area severely affected by oil spills and environmental damage.
This decision has been praised by many local stakeholders, who believe Dr. Adekanmbi’s knowledge and experience will be crucial in restoring both the environment and the economy of Ogoniland.
Ambassador Fubara Dagogo, leader of Rivers Progressive Associates, expressed on Monday that this appointment is invigorating. He stated, “Dr. Adekanmbi’s qualifications and experience make him the ideal person to lead HYPREP. We are confident he will bring the necessary expertise and leadership for the project’s success.”
The group also praised President Tinubu for his dedication to addressing the environmental issues in Ogoniland, emphasizing that Dr. Adekanmbi’s appointment shows the administration’s commitment to keeping its promises to the Ogoni people.
The Ogoni community has long awaited the cleanup of their land, which has been heavily polluted by oil spills. Dr. Adekanmbi’s appointment is seen as a significant step towards achieving this objective.
“We are grateful to President Tinubu for this wise decision and assure Dr. Adekanmbi of our full support in his new role,” added Ambassador Dagogo.
