Reps Panel Summons Perm Sec Over Sexual Harassment Allegation

The House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs has called Ibrahim Lamuwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to answer allegations of sexual harassment.

The committee, led by Oluwole Oke from the People’s Democratic Party representing Obokun/Oriade in Osun State, announced that Lamuwa will appear before them on Thursday.

Simisola Ajayi, a married aide to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, accused Lamuwa of repeatedly harassing her.

Through her lawyer, Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, Ajayi submitted a petition to Tuggar detailing the alleged harassment.

According to Ajayi, Lamuwa made advances towards her on October 7, 2023, during an event to review President Bola Tinubu’s 4D policy.

He allegedly asked why she didn’t stay overnight at the hotel and invited her to his room, which she refused, stating she needed to care for her baby.

On May 27, 2024, Tuggar informed Folasade Yemi-Esan, the head of service of the federation, about these serious allegations. In June, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) questioned Ajayi regarding the case.
