Political Thugs Arrested in Edo Election Amid Firearm Recovery
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of two political thugs during a nighttime operation in Edo State aimed at preventing electoral violence.
The Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. The suspects, Edwin Obanor (43) and Audu Tajudeen (41), were caught in separate incidents.
Obanor, suspected to lead an armed group, was arrested at around 9 p.m. in Oredo Ward 4. Tajudeen, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Ugbogbo Quarters in Igara Akoko, was arrested in his area.
The police acted on a tip-off regarding plans to cause violence during the election and seized three homemade pistols from Obanor and one from Tajudeen.
Adejobi stated that this is a major step in the fight against electoral violence, emphasizing the police’s commitment to maintaining peace during the upcoming governorship election. He assured the public that the police, along with other security agencies, are ready to prevent any disruptions.
He also warned that the police will not accept any violence during the election in Edo State. Both suspects are in custody and will face legal action. Adejobi encouraged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities using the police’s helplines, reaffirming their dedication to protecting lives and property.
