Onyeka Onwenu Laid to Rest in Lagos in an Emotional Ceremony

Onyeka Onwenu, a beloved singer, journalist, and cultural icon, known as the “Elegant Stallion,” was recently laid to rest in a heartfelt ceremony in Lagos.

Onwenu passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, after sustaining injuries from a fall during an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was taken to Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, where she later died.

Her funeral service was held at The Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, and was followed by a private burial at a mausoleum in Ikoyi.

Many notable figures, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, attended the event.

Onwenu’s passing has deeply affected many, as she was not only a talented musician but also a respected broadcaster, actor, politician, and activist.

She is survived by her two sons. Videos from her burial have been shared online, prompting an outpouring of emotions and tributes from fans and admirers across the nation.
