Nigeria Eliminated from FIFA U-20 WWC After Defeat to Japan
The Falconets from Nigeria have been eliminated from the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia after a 2-1 defeat to Japan.
Under coach Danjuma, the team lost despite Olushola Sobowale scoring a late goal, assisted by Goodness Osigwe’s cross.
Japan took the lead in the first half with Miyu Matsunaga scoring from a pass by Rihona Ujihara in the 33rd minute. Nigeria struggled to regain control in the second half and Japan extended their lead with a goal from Maya Hijjikati in the 63rd minute.
Nigeria attempted to score again to force extra time, but it was too late as Japan secured the win.
This is another disappointing end for the Falconets, who have not advanced past this stage since their loss to Germany in the 2014 finals.
