New visa guidelines issued by the US embassy for Nigerian applicants
The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has announced changes to its immigrant visa process, which will start on January 1, 2025.
Under the new procedure, applicants who have an interview scheduled will need to visit the Consulate General in Lagos twice during the visa process.
The embassy shared this update on its official X page on Tuesday.
Starting January 1, 2025, applicants must visit the Lagos Consulate at least twice as part of the immigrant visa process. This change aims to help applicants prepare better for their interviews and avoid major delays in processing their visas.
The first visit will involve a Document Review with consular staff to ensure applicants have everything needed for their visa interviews. This step allows applicants to correct any missing documents before their interview, helping to avoid delays.
The second visit will be the actual interview with a consular officer, arranged by the National Visa Center (NVC).
The embassy also mentioned that if an applicant doesn’t complete the Document Review before their interview, they will need to reschedule their appointment.
