Native doctor accidentally injures himself while testing a bulletproof charm in Abuja

The FCT Police Command reported a shocking incident on Saturday involving a herbalist who tried to test his self-made “bulletproof” charm by shooting himself.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the command, the incident happened on November 23, 2024, in Kuchibuyi Village. A man named Shandam Michael called the police to report that Ismail Usman, a local herbalist known for his strange practices, had injured himself severely while testing his charm.

Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun, believing the charm would protect him. Unfortunately, it didn’t work, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. Officers from the Byazhin Division arrived quickly and rushed him to Kubwa General Hospital. He was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further treatment.

The police searched Usman’s home and found the shotgun he used and several other charms. They have started an investigation, and Usman may face charges for illegal gun possession and attempted suicide under the laws of Northern Nigeria.

FCT Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Disu, criticized the dangerous act, warning against the use of illegal firearms and reckless behavior. SP Josephine Adeh also urged community members to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the police to help maintain safety and security.
