Maresca Highlights Chelsea’s Challenges in Premier League Title Race
Enzo Maresca has stated that Chelsea is not yet ready to compete for the Premier League title alongside teams like Manchester City and Arsenal, even though they’ve had a strong start to the season. Chelsea is currently in fourth place and has scored the most goals in the league, with four wins out of six matches under Maresca.
One standout player is Cole Palmer, who recently scored four goals in the first half against Brighton. Chelsea’s depth was also highlighted in their 4-2 Europa Conference League victory over Gent, where Maresca changed the entire starting lineup.
Despite their progress, Maresca, who’s been with the team for three months, believes they’re not at the level of City or Arsenal yet. He pointed out that both teams have had the same managers for years—City for nine years and Arsenal for five—which has helped them consistently compete at the top.
Chelsea will be looking for their fourth straight league win when they face Nottingham Forest. The atmosphere at the club has improved since Forest’s last visit a year ago, during which Chelsea lost 1-0. That loss was part of a rough patch, but the team has shown signs of improvement after heavy spending on players over the past two years.
Maresca emphasized that winning builds energy, confidence, and trust within the team. However, he added that the players are aware of when they perform well or not, and the positive results have given them belief in the team’s strategy and identity.
