Marcus Rashford Signals Possible Manchester United Exit: “I’m Open to New Challenges”
Marcus Rashford has hinted at possibly leaving Manchester United, saying he feels “ready for a new challenge.”
This follows his exclusion from manager Ruben Amorim’s squad during Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City. Rashford, along with teammate Alejandro Garnacho, was left out due to poor training performances and concerns off the field.
The 27-year-old admitted being dropped was “disheartening” but expressed readiness to move on. Speaking at a school event in Manchester, he said, “I feel it’s time for me to take on a new challenge and the next steps in my career. When I leave, I want it to be on good terms without any drama.”
Rashford has faced criticism for missing team meetings and training sessions under former manager Erik ten Hag. Although Amorim offered him a fresh start, Rashford’s comments suggest he is already considering his exit from Old Trafford after nearly nine years with the first team.
Despite signing a high-paying £325,000-a-week contract in July 2023, Rashford’s uncertain future might lead to a January transfer, with United likely to demand a significant fee. However, interest from major European clubs appears limited, making the Saudi Pro League a possible destination.
Addressing fan criticism, Rashford said, “I feel misunderstood sometimes, but that’s okay. Football has been my whole life, and I’ve learned so much during my nine years here. Still, I have personal goals, and I’m not where I want to be yet.”
As United rebuilds under Amorim, the team will face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals on Thursday, leaving Rashford’s involvement in doubt.
