Man Applauds Wizkid and Nigerian Legends for Shallipopi’s Breakthrough
Fans of Ayodeji Balogun, known as Wizkid, and Oladapo Oyebanjo, aka D’banj, along with Psquare, are currently engaged in a heated debate.
This discussion sparked after a viral video showed Shallipopi meeting some international artists, raising questions about who truly opened the doors for Nigerian musicians globally.
An X user named Riches has praised Wizkid for his role in helping other artists achieve international fame.
Riches believes that Wizkid has been instrumental in breaking barriers and paving the way for Nigerian artists to gain global recognition. This opinion, however, has not gone unchallenged.
A music lover known as Oxoracle countered Riches’ claim. According to Oxoracle, D’banj and Psquare first collaborated with international stars, setting the stage for future Nigerian artists.
He highlighted D’banj’s collaboration with Ye in “Oliver Twist” and Psquare’s work with Rick Ross in “Beautiful Onye” as significant milestones.
Oxoracle’s argument has added a historical perspective to the debate, emphasizing the early contributions of D’banj and Psquare in bringing Nigerian music to the global stage.
This has sparked further discussions among fans about the true pioneers of Nigerian music’s international success.
In a related note, another fan named Cute Ebuke expressed his admiration for both Davido and Wizkid. Ebuke commended them for their significant roles in promoting Afrobeat worldwide.
He highlighted their achievements, including Davido’s Grammy Award and Wizkid’s Grammy nomination, as pivotal in gaining international acclaim for the genre.
Ebuke believes that the efforts of Davido and Wizkid have opened doors for the younger generation of artists. Their success has made it easier for Gen Z musicians to gain international recognition, and for this, he argues, they deserve to be celebrated and applauded for their contributions to the global music scene.
