Luxury Jets for Tinubu While Nigerians Suffer: PRP Criticizes Presidency
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has criticized the decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to buy new luxury jets, calling it reckless, insensitive, and out of touch with reality.
The Presidency previously said the new jets were meant to improve the President’s security and comfort on official trips.
However, many Nigerians are outraged, seeing the purchase as unnecessary and a sign that the government is disconnected from the people’s struggles.
In a statement on Monday, Muhammed Ishaq, the PRP’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, slammed the government for prioritizing the President’s comfort over the needs of Nigerians, who are facing economic hardship and poverty.
The PRP questioned why the government would spend money on new jets given the country’s economic issues, accusing them of ignoring the real problems people face.
The party also pointed out that the current Presidential jet, bought in 2003, is only 19 years old. They compared this to countries like China and the US, which have used their presidential jets for 24 and 34 years respectively.
The PRP urged the government to reconsider this wasteful spending and focus on providing real benefits to the Nigerian people.
They called on all Nigerians to join them in condemning this irresponsible spending and demand better governance.
The PRP stated, “Buying new airplanes for the Presidential fleet shows the government is out of touch with reality and lacks empathy and accountability.
“They are spending on luxury while the country is facing severe economic problems and people are struggling to survive.
“It’s unacceptable that the government is indulging in lavish spending when the economy is collapsing, inflation is nearing 40%, and workers’ wages are stagnant.
“They should address pressing issues like poverty, unemployment, and economic stagnation.
“Countries like China and the US have shown it’s possible to manage with fewer resources. China has used its Presidential jet bought in 2000 for 24 years, and the US has used its jet bought in 1990 for 34 years, serving six presidents.
“We urge the government to remember they are serving the Nigerian people, not themselves. They should prioritize the nation’s needs and be responsible with the limited resources.”
