LP Governorship Aspirant Rejects Amambra’s Amended LG Laws

As debate continues over the new local government laws recently passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly, John Nwosu, a candidate for the 2025 governorship election, has strongly opposed these changes. He calls them a threat to democracy.

In a statement made in Awka, Nwosu criticized the hastily organized local government election set for September 28, 2024, describing it as something out of a bad story. He argues that the law was rushed through with two amendments made quickly and without proper legal care.

Nwosu claims the amendments are designed to help the current governor win all local government positions through deceitful means, regardless of the consequences. He accuses the governor of undermining democratic principles and using legal advice to ensure that election disputes are settled in a way that favors him, given that the state judiciary depends on his support.

He asserts that this approach shows a disregard for the democratic process and the wishes of the people of Anambra State, who are eager to participate in local government elections. Nwosu’s campaign denounces this approach as undemocratic and lacking in fairness, warning that if the elections proceed as planned, they could worsen the already tense security situation in the state.

Nwosu calls on those involved in planning the elections to create a fair and inclusive process to avoid further chaos and security issues.
