Lion Kills Handler at Obasanjo Library Zoo
A lion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has killed its handler, Babaji Daule.
According to reliable sources, the incident happened early on Saturday morning. The 35-year-old handler, originally from Bauchi State, was attacked by the lion at the park’s Zoological Garden.
It was reported around 7:40 am by the park’s Chief Security Officer. The tragic event occurred when Daule, who was trained to handle the male lion, made the mistake of not securing the locks and barriers of the lion’s cage before trying to feed it. Because of this, the lion was able to get out and attack him, causing severe injuries to his neck that led to his death.
The handler’s body was taken to the State Hospital mortuary in Ijaye, Abeokuta, and the lion was shot to stop it from further harming him.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that it was a tragic accident caused by the handler’s failure to properly secure the lion’s enclosure.
