Lagos Police Seize AK 47 Rifles During Protests
In Mushin, Lagos, two people were arrested by the police on the same day that many Nigerians were protesting the worsening economic situation. The protests were happening nationwide, highlighting the public’s frustration with the country’s economic conditions.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, provided details about the arrests. He mentioned that during the operation, police recovered two AK-47 rifles, three pump-action guns, and two homemade pistols, among other items.
Hundeyin explained that the arrested individuals, Sherrif Mustapha and Suturat Lateef, were apprehended after a distress call was made about armed men in the Agoro Street area of Mushin. The police responded promptly to the call.
The arrest took place early in the morning at around 1 am. Hundeyin noted that while Mustapha and Lateef were taken into custody, one other suspect managed to escape from the scene.
Following the arrests, the suspects led the police to 1 Moshalashi Street, Mushin, where additional items were recovered. The police’s quick response and the information from the public played a crucial role in this operation.
In a statement released on August 1, Hundeyin thanked the people of Lagos for their timely information and emphasized the importance of community cooperation in addressing security issues. He expressed optimism that, together, the city can overcome challenges related to insecurity.
The suspects led the police to 1, Moshalashi Street, Mushin where the following were recovered:
1. Two (2) AK 47 rifles
2. One (1) K2 Assault rifle
3. One (1) Red Rufer rifle
4. Three (3) pump action rifles
5. Two (2)locally made single barrel pistols
6. Five (5) magazines
7. Fifty seven (57) live cartridges
8. Seventy (70) 5.56 live ammunition
9. Twenty seven (27) 9mm ammunition
10. one (1) expended 5.56 ammunition
11. One (1) dagger
12. Three (3) walkie talkies
13. Nine (9) international passports
