Labour Party Chairman Claims Edo Election Could Have Been Won with Fairness
Mr. Kelly Ogbalo, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Edo State, claimed that the party would have won the governorship election if it had been fair. He made these comments during an interview in Benin on Monday.
Ogbalo argued that the election was plagued by problems, including open vote-buying that security agencies did not address. He stated, “The Labour Party actually won the election but wasn’t allowed to claim victory. There were serious irregularities, like vote-buying, and the security forces failed to intervene. Given the manipulation of results, what can you expect?”
When asked if the Labour Party would challenge the election results in court, Ogbalo replied that they hadn’t yet held a state council meeting to decide on their next steps.
Recently, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced that Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC won the election with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who received 247,274 votes. The Labour Party’s candidate, Mr. Olumide Akpata, finished third with 22,763 votes.
