Kate Henshaw Raises Awareness on Nigeria’s Pedestrian Safety Issues
Veteran actress Kate Henshaw has expressed her frustration with Nigeria’s pedestrian laws, highlighting that they are not followed as they are in other countries.
In an interview with News Central TV, Henshaw emphasized the importance of understanding pedestrian rules and orderliness, which she believes are often lacking in Nigeria.
She suggested that traveling to different places can help people see how societies function and understand that orderliness is a mindset that can be learned. She observed that in developed countries, pedestrians have more power and respect, unlike in Nigeria, where those not driving are often ignored.
Henshaw criticized Nigeria’s highway code, which claims that pedestrians have the right of way at crossings. She believes this is not true in practice, as pedestrians are often disregarded. She noted that in other countries, pedestrians and even animals are treated with more respect.
She shared a personal experience from Canada, where traffic lights stopped working, but there was no chaos. Drivers at each junction took turns, and traffic flowed smoothly without the need for traffic wardens. She questioned why such orderliness seems impossible in Nigeria and suggested it shouldn’t be like living in a zoo.
