Kano State Government Responds to Court Ruling Reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II
The Kano state government has responded to a recent court judgment concerning the status of the 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II. Representing Governor Abba Yusuf, State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isah Dederi, clarified that according to the court’s ruling, Sanusi was not officially sacked.
This statement follows Governor Yusuf’s directive to the state commissioner of police to remove the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from his mini palace, which is slated for demolition. Governor Yusuf emphasized that the ruling by Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman of the Federal High Court on Thursday, June 20, confirmed that Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano.
The Federal High Court voided the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024, which had reinstated Sanusi II. Justice Liman’s ruling nullified all actions taken after the law’s enactment, including the dismissal of Aminu Ado Bayero and the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II. In response, the Kano state government reaffirmed that Sanusi II retains his position as the Emir of Kano.
