Israel Adesanya Confirms His Comeback to the UFC
Israel Adesanya has confirmed his eagerly awaited return to the UFC, where he will face his longtime rival in Perth.
The 34-year-old took a break from mixed martial arts after unexpectedly losing to Sean Strickland in Sydney last September.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting his return to the Octagon. Although there were hopes he would headline UFC 300, his opponent Dricus du Plessis couldn’t commit to the date.
The two fighters have a history of trash-talking, with du Plessis claiming to be a true African champion because he lives and trains in Africa, unlike Adesanya who was born in Nigeria but moved to New Zealand.
Adesanya hinted at his return by posting a photoshopped image of himself with the UFC’s new golden glove on social media. In his post, he suggested he would be back in the ring on August 17.
He wrote: “The sun of Africa is the same sun that lights up our planet.
“The sun will set and rise again until you face it. Enjoy the sun while it shines. Darkness comes when it’s gone.”
