“I’d solve the issues if I owned Man United” Cristiano Ronaldo declares
Cristiano Ronaldo has shared his thoughts on Manchester United’s ongoing struggles, emphasizing that the club’s challenges extend far beyond the manager’s role.
During his appearance at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, the Al Nassr striker expressed confidence in his ability to solve the club’s problems if he were in charge.
Ronaldo dismissed criticism aimed at manager Ruben Amorim, who has faced scrutiny after five losses in his first 10 matches, including four consecutive Premier League defeats.
“The issue isn’t the coaches,” Ronaldo remarked. “Manchester United’s problems run much deeper. It’s like an aquarium—if the water quality is poor, the fish won’t thrive.”
The Portuguese icon, who netted 145 goals across two spells at Old Trafford, has frequently criticized the club’s direction, particularly under the Glazer family’s ownership.
Ronaldo reiterated his belief that the core of the club’s struggles lies with its ownership, not its managerial choices.
“If I owned the club, I’d take clear and decisive action to address these issues,” he said, adding that while ownership isn’t in his immediate plans, he dreams of owning a “major club” in the future.
Ronaldo also expressed support for Amorim, praising his achievements at Sporting Lisbon and describing him as “fantastic.”
Still, he acknowledged the Premier League’s unique level of competition, calling it “the toughest league in the world.”
Although his departure from United in 2022 was surrounded by controversy, Ronaldo reaffirmed his deep connection to the club.
“I still wish the best for Manchester United. It’s a club I hold close to my heart,” he said.
At the event, Ronaldo capped off a remarkable year in Saudi Arabia by being named the Best Middle East Player of 2024.
