Governor Uba Sani Reinstates Chief Jonathan Zamuna as Paramount Ruler in Kaduna State
On Thursday, July 4, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state announced the reinstatement of Chief Jonathan Zamuna, the paramount ruler of Piriga in the Lere local government area. Chief Zamuna had been dethroned by the former governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on May 22, 2023, just days before the end of El-Rufai’s second term.
During a meeting with the State Council of Chiefs, Governor Sani emphasized the importance of traditional institutions as stabilizing forces in Kaduna state and the nation at large. He stated:
“As proof of my commitment to the rule of law, I want to make known to you our intention to comply fully with the judgment of the court, issued on 10th June 2024, restoring the Chief of Piriga, in Lere LGA, His Royal Highness, Jonathan Zamuna to his stool.”
Governor Sani underscored the critical role of royal fathers in ensuring good governance and security within their communities. He reiterated that government at all levels must collaborate with traditional leaders for effective administration and community security.
This decision comes after a court ruling on June 10, 2024, which favored the reinstatement of Chief Zamuna. The governor’s move to honor the court’s decision demonstrates his dedication to upholding the rule of law.
In related news, former Governor El-Rufai, who has been embroiled in corruption allegations, urged his supporters to pray for Governor Sani’s administration. El-Rufai expressed confidence in the state’s leadership despite ongoing probes into his administration by the state assembly.
This decision marks a significant development in Kaduna’s political landscape, reflecting the current administration’s commitment to judicial rulings and the strengthening of traditional institutions.
