Governor Seyi Makinde apprehends organizers of a charity event where 32 children lost their lives

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has ordered the arrest of those who organized a charity event where 32 children tragically lost their lives.

In a statement following the stampede at Islamic High School in Basorun, Ibadan, on Wednesday, the governor expressed his grief and shared details about the incident.

The event, hosted by a radio station owned by a well-known broadcaster, offered gifts to attendees, which attracted a large crowd. Unfortunately, the huge turnout led to a stampede, during which many children were trampled.

Several injured children were rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. Sadly, some were pronounced dead on arrival, while medical staff worked to save others.

Governor Makinde revealed that investigations into the tragedy have begun and assured the public that all responsible parties will face justice. He expressed his condolences to the grieving families and called for calm as the authorities carry out their inquiry.

He said, “This is a heartbreaking day for all of us in Oyo State. Our thoughts are with the parents whose children’s lives were tragically cut short.

“The main organizers of the event have already been detained, and I want to assure everyone that those responsible, directly or indirectly, will be held accountable. Please stay calm as the investigation continues.

“To the families affected, our hearts are with you in this time of sorrow. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. Amen.”
