Ganduje Absent As Panel Probes His 2 Terms
The investigation team called the Judicial Commission Of Inquiry (JCI) has begun looking into the actions of the ex-governor of Kano state and the current National Chairman of the APC party, Abdullahi Ganduje. They started their work on Monday.
They are focusing on the time from May 2015 to 2022, which covers the entire two terms that Ganduje served as the governor of Kano State.
During his opening speech on Monday, Justice Faruk Lawan Adamu, the chairman of the Commission, introduced the JCI members and outlined the terms of the upcoming public hearing. He urged the JCI to steer clear of politicizing their work, warning that doing so could hinder their fact-finding mission’s success.
As part of the commission’s mandate, they will assess the sale, disposal, or allocation of all government-owned properties such as schools, hospitals, praying grounds, historical sites, graveyards, and other lands within Kano and other urban areas of Kano state from May 2015 to 2022.
The commission is also tasked with reviewing the sale, disposal, or allocation of government offices, houses, workshops, and other public buildings or lands owned by the state or local government, both within and outside Kano, from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023. They aim to create a detailed list of affected properties, determine their initial costs or values, and estimate their current market values.
The commission will identify the individuals, companies, agencies, or entities that received these properties through sale, disposal, or allocation and determine if these properties have changed hands and to whom. They will also assess the legitimacy of these transactions and provide appropriate recommendations.
Furthermore, the commission will investigate if any misconduct occurred during these processes and identify the officials or individuals responsible for such misconduct. Justice Faruk Lawan Adamu added that the commission will recommend actions regarding properties that were improperly sold to individuals or companies.
He urged the public and media to offer maximum support and cooperation to the commission. He also encouraged anyone with valuable information that could aid the commission’s work to come forward and share it.
