Falana Prepares to Take Civil Action Against VeryDarkMan Over ₦10m Scandal Involving Bobrisky
Human rights lawyer and activist Femi Falana recently spoke out for the first time about accusations that he, his son Falz (a popular musician), and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, were involved in a scheme to secure a presidential pardon.
Back in September, the news outlet PREMIUM TIMES reported that social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, shared an audio recording of Bobrisky on Instagram. In the recording, Bobrisky claimed that Falana and his son offered to help him get a presidential pardon in exchange for N10 million while he was held in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
Falz responded by demanding an apology and retraction from VeryDarkMan within 24 hours.
In an interview on Channels TV’s *Politics Today*, Mr. Falana denied having any involvement, stating, “I have never met Bobrisky, and he has never spoken to me.” He explained that Bobrisky had reached out to his son Falz on May 4, asking for N3 million in exchange for VIP treatment in prison. His son declined, advising Bobrisky to contact him through official channels if needed, and never heard from him again after that.
Falana also expressed disbelief over the House of Representatives’ decision to investigate Bobrisky’s alleged VIP treatment in prison, pointing out that the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019 already addresses prison misconduct.
According to reports, the House has summoned VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky, the Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into these claims. Bobrisky did not attend the meeting, but the other parties did.
Falana further denied the accusation that his son arranged a N10 million deal for a pardon, emphasizing that he has secured pardons for people before without ever asking for money.
Although Falana has not filed a criminal complaint against VeryDarkMan, he explained that he’s an advocate for freedom of expression. Instead, he plans to take civil legal action to defend his and his son’s reputations. Falana criticized social media for spreading false information and expressed frustration that no apology or retraction had been made, prompting him to take the matter to court.
Bobrisky was arrested by the EFCC in April for money laundering and defacing Naira notes. While the money laundering charges were dropped, he was sentenced to six months in prison for Naira abuse.
