Daniel Bwala, a devoted aide to Atiku, defects to Tinubu’s administration.
Just 11 months after declaring that President Bola Tinubu couldn’t fulfill his promises even with an additional 30 years in office, Daniel Bwala has been appointed as Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Public Communications.
This marks a significant shift for Bwala, who transitions from being a staunch supporter of Atiku and vocal critic of Tinubu to an insider within the President’s administration.
Presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga announced the appointments on Thursday, listing Bwala alongside four others: Olawale Olopade as Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Abisoye Fagade as Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, and Bwala as Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.
In an earlier interview with Channels Television after President Tinubu presented the 2024 budget proposals, Bwala had expressed skepticism about the President’s ability to achieve his objectives within the allotted time. He noted:
“When discussing patience and timelines, it’s essential to consider the timeframe a public official has to execute their duties. The President, eight months into his four-year term, has completed 31.8% of his tenure, leaving less than 70% to accomplish his goals.
“Back in 2015, when President Buhari took office, we heard similar reassurances. We waited through two terms, and yet systemic issues persisted. When policies are fundamentally flawed, no amount of time—30 years included—can make them work. Economists have widely criticized this budget as incapable of delivering on its promises.”
