Crocodiles and Snakes Invade Homes as Flood Hits Zoo in Maiduguri
After a major flood hit parts of Maiduguri, dangerous animals like crocodiles and snakes have invaded the affected areas, particularly around the Post Office and Monday Market, which are close to Shehu Kyarimi Park (Zoo).
Reports indicate that, besides Shehu’s palace, several places are underwater, including parts of the University of Maiduguri, its Teaching Hospital, Gwange, Moromoro, State Lowcost, the 500 Abbagana housing estate, the Monday Market, Lagos Streets, NUJ Centre, and even the Government House. This has left millions of people displaced and caused damage worth billions of naira.
At the time of reporting, many people were seen trying to move their remaining belongings to safer places like Bulumkutu, Gomari Airport, and Tashan Baga, while calling on the government for help.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that many lives have been lost in the ongoing flooding.
The situation is unfolding while Governor Babagana Zulum is out of the country, and his Deputy, Umar Kadafur, is on his annual leave.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, has urged the public to stay alert as the police and other authorities work to protect lives and property during this difficult time.
