Courtois, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, out of action due to a hip injury.
Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, is facing a brief spell on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a hip muscle injury by the club’s medical team.
According to Spanish reports, Courtois is expected to make his return around mid-October, following the upcoming international break. This injury will see him miss key fixtures, including Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Lille and the La Liga home match against Villarreal next weekend.
In a statement, Real Madrid confirmed the diagnosis, stating that Courtois has sustained an abductor injury.
The injury occurred during Madrid’s recent 1-1 derby draw against Atletico Madrid. Courtois, who once played for Atletico, was also targeted by rival fans during the match, with objects such as lighters being thrown at him.
After spending much of last season recovering from a serious knee injury, Courtois had only recently returned in time to feature in Madrid’s victorious Champions League final.
In his absence, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is expected to step in, just as he did during Courtois’ previous injury last season.
