Court Restrains Soun of Ogbomoso from Removing Chief Imam Amidst Family Dispute
In Ogbomoso, Oyo state, a fierce dispute has arisen between the Chief Imam, Sheikh Teliat Yunus Ayilara, and the traditional monarch, Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye. The council of Imams in the community clarified that Oba Olaoye does not have an issue with the Imam, and questioned the legitimacy of Sheikh Teliat’s membership in the Ayilara family.
According to a report by Alaroye, a Yorùbá news medium, the real issue between the Soun of Ogbomoso, the kingmakers, and the Chief Imam stems from a family dispute. The council of Imams stated that the Soun’s actions were based on his investigation following petitions against Imam Teliat’s installation.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has issued an order restraining Oba Olaoye and his council from removing the Imam until the case is heard. This court action was initiated by the Registered Trustees of Ogbomoso Muslim Youths Forum in suit number HOG/31/2024.
