Court Reinstates Bayero As Kano Emir

On Thursday, June 20, a Federal High Court in Kano nullified the Kano Emirate Council (Amendment No. 2) Law, 2024, which had dismantled four of the five emirate councils and removed all five emirs, including Aminu Ado-Bayero of Kano. Justice Abdullahi Liman, presiding over the case, declared all actions taken following the passage of the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 as null and void.

Justice Liman also ordered all parties to maintain the status quo. Additionally, the court granted the respondent’s application for a stay of proceedings pending the case’s hearing and determination at the Court of Appeal. It transferred the case to Federal High Court 3.
