Breaking News: Ademola Lookman named Africa’s Best Player for 2024

Ademola Lookman has made history in African football by being named the 2024 African Player of the Year.
The Atalanta forward beat tough rivals like Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain), Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast/Brighton), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns) to win the prestigious award.
Lookman’s outstanding performances for both his club and Nigeria were impossible to overlook this year.
His unforgettable hat-trick helped Atalanta secure the Europa League title against Bayer Leverkusen last season.
For Nigeria, he played a key role in their journey to the Africa Cup of Nations final, scoring three goals and assisting another. His performances earned him a spot in the tournament’s official Team of the Tournament.
With this win, Lookman joins the ranks of Nigerian legends like Rashidi Yekini, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Amuneke, Victor Ikpeba, and last year’s winner, Victor Osimhen, who have also received this honor.
While many fans, especially Moroccans, backed Hakimi for the award—supported by figures like former player Salaheddine Bassir—Lookman’s consistent excellence at both club and international levels ultimately secured his victory.
