Bayelsa Restores Electricity After 4 Months of Blackout
The Port Harcourt branch of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored electricity to most of Bayelsa State after a four-month-long blackout.
This branch oversees power in six states: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Imo, and Rivers. Despite facing major challenges, the team managed to get power back up and running.
During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the General Manager of the region, Emmanuel Anyaegbulem, shared the details. He explained that the outage began on July 29 due to vandalism, which damaged around 20 transmission towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132KV power line — the only line that supplies electricity to Bayelsa. The repairs, which cost about N13 million per tower, were completed by November 30.
On the issue of security, Anyaegbulem stated that ten suspects were arrested for vandalizing TCN’s infrastructure this year, with four already convicted and the rest awaiting trial.
He also emphasized TCN’s dedication to supplying reliable electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos), ensuring consumers have a steady power supply.
