Ayo Mogaji Clarifies Relationship with Jibola Dabo and Speaks on Endorsements for Younger Actors
Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Mogaji has debunked claims that she was ever married to fellow actor Jibola Dabo. In a recent interview with New Telegraph, Mogaji clarified that although she had an affair with Dabo and they have a child together, they were never married. She is currently married to Dr. Victor Ayodele Oduleye, a British psychotherapist.
Reflecting on her relationship with Dabo, Mogaji stated, “Jibola was only my boyfriend, though we had a baby together before I got married. We never got married to each other. I’m married to a British Psychotherapist named Dr. Victor Ayodele Oduleye,” she affirmed.
When questioned about her feelings regarding younger actors securing lucrative brand endorsements while older actors, who have significantly contributed to the industry’s growth, receive much less recognition, Mogaji expressed a mix of resignation and hope. She remarked that this disparity does not bother her personally, but she believes it warrants investigation.
“It’s journalists like you that will help us to ask them what disqualifies us from such life-changing opportunities,” Mogaji said. She speculated on possible reasons for the disparity, suggesting it might be due to differences in work ethics, unwillingness to compromise on certain values, or simply the marketability of newer faces.
Mogaji shared a recent conversation with her director about the same issue, highlighting the confusion and frustration among veteran actors. “What their criteria are, I don’t know, but I know if you google my name, you would see what I’ve done and the rest.”
Despite the apparent unfairness, Mogaji remains optimistic. She believes that her extensive body of work speaks for itself and that she will be called upon when the time is right. “All well and good, if anybody needs my service, they will call me when the time comes,” she concluded.
Mogaji’s reflections underscore the challenges faced by veteran actors in the evolving entertainment industry, emphasizing the need for a broader appreciation of their contributions.
