Ayo Adesanya’s Reflection on Playing Wicked Roles
Nigerian actress Ayo Adesanya has shared her thoughts on playing evil characters in movies and how it impacts her emotionally.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Adesanya talked about her surprise and discomfort at how well she portrays these sinister roles.
“Acting different characters lets you experience various lifestyles,” Adesanya said. “Sometimes, when I see myself acting wickedly in a movie, I’m amazed at how convincingly I do it. It makes me wonder if I’m really that wicked, which makes me feel bad. I know I’m just playing a role, but I still question why a character could be so heartless.”
Adesanya’s latest project is a YouTube series called ‘Madam Movable,’ where she plays a comedic role as a delivery woman, which is new for her.
She mentioned the challenges she faced, like learning to ride a bike.
“After playing many characters, I wanted to try something different to push my limits,” Adesanya explained. “I’ve seen many delivery men but never a delivery woman. I also wanted to explore my comedic side more, so I chose to do that in this series. It’s a ‘calm’ type of comedy, not the usual kind. Learning to ride a bike was tough, and I had to train for a week to get it right. After that, I really started to respect okada riders.”
Aside from her acting, Adesanya gave some advice to young women about relationships.
“Having a good relationship is tough nowadays because even men don’t want to get married anymore,” she said. “But if a relationship starts with friendship, it has a better chance of succeeding. There are many reasons to ask a man for money, but if you’re just dating, you shouldn’t ask for money because it will make you lose respect. If he gives it to you, that’s fine, but don’t ask.”
