APC Demands Investigation into Alleged Rice Diversion in Kano
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is calling for an investigation into claims that some officials have misappropriated rice donations from the Federal Government that were intended for Kano State. They are also urging that those found responsible be swiftly prosecuted.
The APC’s State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, has expressed concern over repeated incidents of palliative aid being misused by officials from the NNPP-led government. He warned that failing to address these issues might be interpreted as supporting these wrongful actions.
Abbas highlighted several specific cases, including the discovery of numerous bags of rice marked “Federal Government Food Security Programme” at Sagagi’s private school. He also mentioned the arrest of Tasiu Al’amin-Roba, who was allegedly involved in diverting state palliatives.
Furthermore, Abbas accused the state government of rebranding and repackaging aid, including placing the Governor’s picture and the NNPP logo on them before selling to party members. This practice, he claimed, misrepresents the origin of the aid and benefits only the party’s members.
The APC chairman also criticized the state government for taking credit for federal interventions, such as the recent distribution of fertilizer, seeds, and other support to farmers. He believes this undermines the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in aiding the people.
In response to these allegations, Chief of Staff Shehu Sagagi denied any wrongdoing. He stated that the rice found at his school was either purchased with his own funds or donated by generous individuals.
Sagagi emphasized that he has been dedicated to feeding children at his Islamic school long before he became Chief of Staff. He asserted that he has never diverted palliatives intended for the public for his personal use.
Sagagi also stressed that his actions are driven by a sense of social responsibility and a commitment to supporting the community. He assured the public of his unwavering integrity and dedication to serving the people of Kano State.
Finally, Sagagi expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with any investigation to clear his name and demonstrate his commitment to transparency and accountability.
