Dele Farotimi has been freed from prison

Renowned Nigerian human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has regained his freedom after fulfilling his bail requirements.

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), shared the update on Tuesday through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Sowore disclosed that Farotimi had been released from custody in Ekiti and was on his way back to Lagos. “I’m glad to announce that Dele Farotimi is no longer in Ekiti State prison and is now heading home to Lagos. The fight for justice continues!” he wrote.

Farotimi was detained earlier this month following accusations of defaming Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Afe Babalola University founder, Afe Babalola.

The Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti had recently granted bail to Farotimi, setting the amount at ₦30 million.
