Davido labeled as a gospel artist by Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, who explains his perspective
Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, a UK-based Nigerian cleric, recently described popular musician Davido as a gospel artist. In an interview, Adegboyega explained that “gospel” means “good news,” and he believes Davido’s music conveys positive messages that align with this definition. He cited Davido’s song “Stand Strong” as an example, highlighting its uplifting content.
Adegboyega made these remarks in response to criticism for featuring secular artists like Davido and KCee at his birthday celebration instead of traditional gospel musicians. He defended his choice by emphasizing his personal relationships with these artists, noting that they performed out of friendship without any payment. He also mentioned that gospel artists had distanced themselves from him, leaving him to rely on his supportive circle of friends.
Additionally, Adegboyega shared that Davido’s father wishes for his son to become a gospel artist one day, suggesting a familial aspiration towards gospel music.
