Yvonne Jegede responds to backlash over her portrayal of a ‘runs girl’ in a film
Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has addressed a fan’s comment about her convincing portrayal of a “runs girl” in Mercy Aigbe’s new movie, Thinline.
The fan, Damilola Made, posted on X (formerly Twitter), questioning if Yvonne’s performance was based on personal experience. He tweeted:
“Please, I have an important question for @iamyvonnejegede. Have you ever been a prostitute before acting? Because how did you play that role so perfectly?”
In response, Yvonne humorously admitted she was startled to see her name mentioned alongside the word “ashawo” (prostitute). She explained:
“I just woke up, picked up my phone, and this is what I saw. The moment I saw my name and the word ‘ashawo,’ I instantly woke up completely. I thought, ‘What have I done again?’ Thanks for the review! Thinline is a beautiful story; don’t miss it.”
Her witty and composed response has earned her praise, with fans admiring how gracefully she handled the remark while also promoting the movie.
It’s worth mentioning that Thinline faced stiff competition and mixed opinions as it was released around the same time as Funke Akindele’s popular film, Everybody Loves Jenifa.
