Renowned Islamic preacher, Muyideen Bello, has passed away
Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, a respected Islamic scholar and preacher, has passed away at the age of 84.
The news of his death was shared on Friday by Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek, an Islamic scholar based in Ibadan, via a Facebook post. Akewugbagold, who described the late preacher as fearless and hailing from Oyo State, expressed deep sorrow, praying for Allah’s mercy and peace for Sheikh Bello’s soul.
In his tribute, Akewugbagold wrote: “Today is one of my saddest days. My father and mentor has returned to his Creator. SULTONUL WAHIZEEN of Yorubaland, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, may Allah grant your soul peace. Aljannah Firdaus for you. Our hearts are heavy with grief, and our eyes are full of tears, but we will say nothing except what pleases Allah, the sole master of life and death.”
The news was also confirmed by Sheikh Bello’s son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, also known as Aponle Annabi, who shared a post on social media with crying emojis and a picture of his father, though no further details were given.
Born in 1940 to Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello in Ibadan, Sheikh Bello was a key figure in the Muslim community, both in Nigeria and internationally. He was dedicated to Islamic education, and his efforts in establishing schools and institutions that merged Islamic values with modern education earned him widespread respect. His approach to combining religious teachings with subjects like science and humanities made him a beloved mentor to many generations.
