Politics is not a mere job; don’t use 2027 as a scare tactic against President Tinubu
The Presidency has called on critics to stop using the 2027 election as a means of threatening President Bola Tinubu.
Abiodun Essiet, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), defended Tinubu’s policies, stressing that they are aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economy.
In a brief post on her X handle on Tuesday, Mrs. Essiet responded to the criticism surrounding the Tax Reform Bill, addressing concerns that its passage could harm Tinubu’s prospects in 2027.
She pointed out that “politics is not a job” and emphasized that the President’s push for reforms in his first term shows his true commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
“Stop using the media to threaten the president about 2027. You can continue your breakfast meetings until then, but politics isn’t a career,” she stated.
“The president has the best interests of this country at heart. No other president would push for such reforms in their first term—like local government autonomy, financial reforms, and tax changes. Most presidents reserve this for their second term. It’s not about 2027; it’s about moving Nigeria forward. Let’s focus on reforms and leave politics for 2026.”
Essiet further explained that the tax reforms are aimed at solving issues like multiple taxation and urged Nigerians to read the Tax Reform Bill for a better understanding.
“Don’t rely on social media influencers or other media outlets to inform you about the tax bills. Influencers are paid to sway public opinion and often have political agendas. Stop being misled and let’s engage in meaningful discussions,” she added.
