Toke Makinwa reflects on how she spent her youth searching for love
Toke Makinwa, a well-known media personality, recently shared a personal reflection about her experiences in her youth. During a conversation on Cocktails and Takeaways, she opened up about how she spent most of her 20s focused on one relationship. Looking back, she admitted that she didn’t enjoy this period of her life as much as she thought she would.
She explained that her 20s were largely shaped by her love for one man, saying, “I don’t think I liked my twenties. I don’t think I knew what I was doing because I was in love with one man in my 20s.
” Toke revealed that her attention was entirely consumed by this relationship, which made it difficult for her to truly figure out who she was during that time.
Although she acknowledges that her 20s weren’t the best years for her, Toke expressed gratitude for the lessons she learned. She believes that her experiences, including the struggles, have helped her become the person she is today. “I’m however grateful that I’m where I am today because my experience has shaped me,” she shared, highlighting how her past played a role in her personal growth.
In addition to reflecting on her own journey, Toke offered advice to young people. She strongly encouraged them to take their time before making life-changing decisions, such as marriage.
“I tell young people that they have no business getting married in their early or mid-twenties,” she said. She emphasized the importance of self-discovery before committing to such serious commitments.
Her advice was clear: young people should focus on understanding themselves before entering into long-term relationships or marriage. “Figure out yourself. Know yourself first,” Toke urged on Cocktails and Takeaways, encouraging her audience to prioritize personal growth and self-awareness before rushing into big decisions.
