Ancelotti claims Real Madrid shares Mbappé’s problem
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti explained on Saturday that Kylian Mbappe’s challenges this season stem from the team’s overall inconsistency.
The French star missed a penalty during Madrid’s recent Champions League loss to Liverpool, marking their third defeat in five matches in the tournament. Since joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, Mbappe has faced criticism for his performance, managing just two goals in his last nine games.
Ancelotti emphasized that the issue isn’t solely Mbappe’s but a collective one. “We’re all responsible for improving, not just Mbappe but me and the entire team,” he said ahead of their La Liga game against Getafe. He pointed out that the team needs to work on being more consistent, adding that Mbappe is still adapting to the club and has contributed with eight goals and several assists so far.
The coach acknowledged that while Mbappe could improve, so could everyone else. He also dismissed concerns about Mbappe’s morale, saying the player understands the need to do better and isn’t discouraged despite criticism, especially after missing the penalty against Liverpool.
Ancelotti also mentioned that injuries to key players like Vinicius Junior, Dani Carvajal, and Eder Militao contributed to their recent struggles. However, he confirmed that Rodrygo would be available for the match against Getafe.
Currently, Real Madrid sits four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, with one game in hand. Reflecting on the situation, Ancelotti admitted he isn’t satisfied with the results but remains confident they can turn things around, as they’ve done in the past.
