Edo APC and PDP clash, blaming each other for Secretariat damage

The Edo State chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are locked in a heated exchange over claims of vandalism at the PDP secretariat.

Chris Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary for the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, alleged that APC-sponsored thugs stormed their secretariat, inflicting significant destruction and looting valuables worth millions of naira.

Per Punch Online, Nehikhare detailed that the attackers damaged doors, windows, and office equipment, seizing electronics, computers, and other assets. He stated that the building was thoroughly ransacked and implied that anyone present might have faced physical harm.

Nehikhare condemned the act as a reckless attempt by the APC to intimidate the PDP and obstruct their efforts to reclaim what he described as a stolen mandate from the September 21 governorship election.

He stated, “It’s unfortunate that APC mobilized thugs to attack our secretariat in a desperate bid to derail our legitimate efforts to recover the mandate given to us by the people of Edo State during the governorship election.

“They destroyed property worth millions and looted our secretariat. If APC is truly confident in its victory, why resort to such acts of intimidation?”

Calling the incident barbaric, Nehikhare urged security agencies to investigate thoroughly and ensure that those responsible face justice. He reassured PDP members and supporters to stay calm and resolute, affirming that the party would pursue every legal means to reclaim its mandate.

However, APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, dismissed the allegations as unfounded. He advised the PDP to focus on resolving its internal issues instead of dragging the APC into their turmoil.

Uwadiae-Igbinigie questioned the PDP’s claims, asking if the attackers bore any visible affiliation to the APC. He described the accusation as baseless, arguing that the APC-led government was preoccupied with delivering development projects and had no reason to engage in such acts.

He remarked, “The PDP’s accusations are without merit. Did the alleged attackers wear APC identifiers? If they’re making such serious claims, they should present proof. The APC is focused on implementing projects that the PDP neglected during its tenure.”

The APC spokesperson emphasized that the party remains committed to governance and progress, while urging the PDP to address its internal disputes independently.
