Presidency Introduces Plan to Combat Homelessness Among Poor and Unemployed
The Presidency has unveiled plans to introduce a bill to the National Assembly aimed at addressing housing challenges for low-income and unemployed citizens.
Fredrick Nwabufo, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Public Engagement, shared the news on Tuesday, revealing that the proposed legislation, titled the *National Social Housing Fund (NSHF)*, is designed to provide all Nigerians with access to quality housing, regardless of their income level.
Nwabufo noted that a memo regarding the initiative will be submitted to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for review. He further explained that funding for the program will be sourced from budgetary allocations as well as contributions from donors.
“Steps are underway to establish the *National Social Housing Fund (NSHF)* in alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This initiative aims to ensure that vulnerable groups, including those with little to no income, have access to safe and dignified housing.
“A memo to the FEC and an Executive Bill to the National Assembly are in preparation to formalize the creation of the fund. Financing will come from budgetary provisions, philanthropic donations, corporate social responsibility efforts, and voluntary contributions from Nigerians.
“President Tinubu is tackling Nigeria’s housing crisis with purpose and a structured approach, recognizing the urgency of the matter. He is committed to restoring citizens’ hope for affordable and practical housing,” Nwabufo stated via his X (formerly Twitter) account.
